Profile:
Alan joined the firm in 2011 and works in the Manchester Employment team. Training in Manchester, Alan specialised mainly in commercial law during the early stages of his career, but showed a flair for employment law and went on to set up the employment department at another firm. He had notable successes acting for clients in relation to employment tribunal claims for disability discrimination and became the appointed adviser for various professional and retail businesses, including the UK’s leading dry cleaning company.
Alan has practised in the North West for over 22 years and continues to advise businesses on how to implement their HR strategy, including staffing restructures, collective changes of terms and senior executive terminations. His commercial approach has proved to be particularly appealing to SME’s and owner-managed businesses who are keen to find practical and cost effective solutions to HR issues.
Having trained in his early teens as a brass player at the Junior School of the Royal Northern College of Music, Alan is a keen musician and his playing can be heard regularly on television as guest with the Black Dyke Band when they recorded the theme music to the BBC’s “Ground Force” programme. Alan has always been keen to give something back to the local community and is currently appointed by the Bury Education Authority as a governor at The Elton High School.
