We advise clients across a wide range of traditional and new media issues, including the creation, protection and distribution of all forms of content via digital and other media. We are experienced in dealing with interactive and pay TV, Video on Demand, web casting and video streaming, internet and mobile downloads, publishing arrangements, production and distribution agreements, video game agreements and all other issues in the industry.With particular regard to broadcasting, we advise clients on host broadcasting and production and all legal aspects of national and international distribution and related regulatory aspects, including channel distribution, licensing and the codes relating to advertising and sponsorship.
Our experience includes:
– Advising Manchester United FC in the exploitation of its electronic media business, in particular the continued development of its website 'manutd.com', representative foreign versions of 'manutd.com' and the interactive service 'MU.tv', including negotiation for the provision of technical services, sponsorship, content acquisition and the protection of intellectual property rights.
– Advising Manchester United FC on a variety of publishing matters, including in respect of DVD and video, books, the matchday programme and official magazine.
– Advising FINA, the world governing body for swimming and the other aquatic sports, on all host broadcasting, distribution and licensing issues for its events including deals with Fox Sports, WCSN, Channel 9, CCTV, and with the pan-European broadcasting organisation, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
– Advising LEN, the European governing body for swimming and the other aquatic sports, on all host broadcasting and distribution arrangements for its events, including its deal with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
– Advising MUTV (the first ever dedicated football club television channel) in all areas of its growth and development, including the grant of rights to show delayed full match coverage from the FA Premier League and, the international distribution and exploitation of those rights worldwide.
– Advising Manchester United FC on host broadcast issues relating to its annual pre-season international tours, including USA (2003 & 2004), South East Asia (2005) and South Africa (2006), specifically advising on syndication of rights for MUTV and, additionally, advising on arrangements with the promoters of such tours.
– Advising a leading world international federation on the promotion of its brand and retail of associated merchandise through e-commerce, m-commerce, TV shopping and mail order channels.
– Advising Bolton Wanderers FC with regard to its broadcasting arrangements for an international tour of Asia and the international distribution of FA Premier League 'Club Programming Blocks'.
– Representing and advising the G14 European group of football clubs (which includes AC Milan, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF and Juventus FC) regarding the exploitation of electronic media in respect of the UEFA Champions League.
– Advising Match Day Media in connection with the exploitation of its in-stadia broadcast service and related issues.
