Leading sports lawyers assist the FA on the new England Manager contract

A team of top sports lawyers from Manchester-based Brabners Chaffe Street advised The Football Association on its appointment of Fabio Capello as the new England manager.

The team, led by senior partner Maurice Watkins, assisted Simon Johnson, the Director of Corporate Affairs at The FA, in the negotiation and preparation of the four and a half year contracts for the Italian and his four backroom staff.

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach was officially appointed as England manager on Friday, 14 December 2007, following a week of negotiations at The FA headquarters, in Soho Square, London.

Mr Watkins said: `This has been a complex, fast-moving and high profile deal.

We are pleased to have worked with The FA on such a challenging caseî.

Also involved in the Capello deal were Partners Edward Canty, Lydia Edgar and Jason Smith.

Mr Capello was advised by Pierfilippo Capello of Guardamagna e associate, Milan and Julio Senn Gonzalez and Diego Rodriguez Titos of Garrigues, Madrid.
