Event Organisation and Exploitation
We have an in-depth knowledge of the issues affecting event organisers, sponsors, broadcasters, merchandising licensees and participants. Our specialism in this area covers a broad spectrum of events and the issues relating to them, including bid processes, hosting and staging, commercial rights protection / exploitation and ambush marketing. Whilst a large amount of our work in this area has been in the arena of sport, we also have considerable experience in the music and entertainment arena, in particular the hosting of pop / rock concerts and arrangements for music festivals.Our experience includes:
– Advising FIFA on its bidding documentation and Organising Association Agreements for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany.
– Advising Manchester United FC on its tours, including the USA (2003 & 2004), Asia (2005) and South Africa (2006) and the creation and establishment of the Manchester United 'Tournament of Champions'.
– Advising FINA, the world governing body for swimming and the other aquatic sports, on all aspects of the bid processes for the award of and for the hosting and staging of its events, including the FINA World Championships 2003, 2005 and 2009 and the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2010.
– Advising Manchester United FC on its stadium hire agreements for Old Trafford, including the hosting of Super League Grand Finals, the UEFA Champions League Final and numerous other events.
– Advising LEN, the European governing body for swimming and the other aquatic sports, on all aspects of the hosting and staging of its events, including the European Championships 2006.
– Advising the national governing body British Swimming, together with Manchester City Council, on their successful bid to host the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2008 in Manchester and being appointed Company Secretary and legal advisers to the organising committee for hosting and staging the event.
– Advising the Chinese Football Association in respect of match / tournament organisation and team participation.
– Advising the organising committee to the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester on its volunteer programme and security issues.
– Advising CART (the Auto-Racing governing body in the USA) on its racing series events.
