Brabners organises charity challenge
2/05/2007

A leading law firm has outlined plans to boost the coffers of a North West children`s hospice to the tune of more than £10,000 with a marathon row, ride and hike across the Lake District.

Solicitors from Brabners Chaffe Street in Preston have organised the gruelling charity challenge which will see them take on rival teams made up of clients in the 12-hour event in aid of Claire House.

The competition will begin with a 10-mile paddle across the length of Lake Windemere in a three-man Canadian canoe followed by a 28-mile bike ride from Ambleside to Wasdale Head. It concludes with a four-mile ascent and descent of England`s highest peak ñ the 3,210-foot Scafell Pike in Cumbria.

It is the latest energy-sapping fundraiser by the Chapel Street firm. Last year, two of its lawyers raised £3,000 for St Catherine`s Hospice in Preston by completing a 24-hour climb of the highest points in England, Scotland and Wales.

Property solicitor Simon Colvin is helping to organise and will take part in this year`s event, which takes place on Saturday, 4th August. He said the experience of enduring last year`s Three Peaks Challenge would stand him in good stead.

`It`s going to be pretty exhausting but it`s also a bit of fun and a great way of raising money for a very good cause. We`re throwing down the gauntlet to clients because we thought the element of competition would help get us all through and generate some extra cash for Claire House.

`If that isn`t enough, we`ve organised a barbeque at the end of the day. Hopefully, the scent of grilled food will help guide the stragglers over the finishing line.î

Claire House is Brabners Chaffe Street`s nominated charity. Based in Wirral, it provides residential and home-based care for seriously children.
