12/04/2011

Leading North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has announced that it has agreed terms to merge with specialist property law practice Murphy Hodgkinson on 1 May 2011.

Murphy Hodgkinson is an award-winning niche firm that specialises in property development law and has a particularly strong reputation for its expertise in residential property development. Clients include many national and regional house building companies.

The merger will see partners and staff from Murphy Hodgkinson joining Brabners Chaffe Street's offices in both Liverpool and Manchester and the turnover of the combined firm is expected to exceed £31m. Karen Murphy, who established Murphy Hodgkinson in 2000, will lead Brabners Chaffe Street's residential development team and will be based in Liverpool.

Mark Brandwood, Managing Partner at Brabners Chaffe Street said: “Our two firms are well matched, with shared values and a commitment to providing the best legal advice service for our clients. The merger will make our commercial property capability even stronger, as Murphy Hodgkinson acts for many of the key players in the North West residential property development sector.”

Karen Murphy commented: “In Brabners Chaffe Street, we have found a merger partner that places a culture of client care, professional integrity and excellence at the very heart of their ethos and approach and for whom commercial property work is a key part of their business. The merger will give us the support and resources we need to develop our services further and our clients will now have direct access to a leading, full service law firm with the scope to offer a wider range of high quality advice.”
