Brabners Chaffe Street advises Peel Ports on deal for potential new renewable energy site in the UK
13/05/2011Leading North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has advised Peel Ports on an option agreement with Vestas, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer, on a lease of a 70 hectare site at the Port of Sheerness in Kent.
The site is the chosen base for a potential new manufacturing and assembly facility for the V164-7.0 MW offshore wind turbine unveiled by Vestas in March this year. The new wind turbine will be the world's biggest offshore wind turbine and is said to be taller than the Gherkin and with blades that will sweep an area bigger than Wembley Stadium.
The legal team at Brabners Chaffe Street was led by Property Partners Sandy Gill and Ian Hardman and included Claire Gregory, Associate and Head of the Environment & Regulatory team. Reed Smith, led by real estate development partner Richard Nicoll and construction and engineering partner Richard Ceeney, represented Vestas.
Sandy Gill of Brabners Chaffe Street commented: “We are delighted to have worked on this transaction with our client, Peel Ports. Renewable energy is a key growth sector in our economy and this is a significant deal which brings important investment into the UK and could create a substantial number of jobs as well as extensive new business opportunities.”
