4/09/2008

Sports lawyers at Brabners Chaffe Street LLP have reinforced their reputation as leaders in their own field by concluding a number of multi-million pound football deals before the transfer window slammed shut.

The firm had a hand in some of the major moves both on and off the pitch, featuring in deals which underlined its credibility with some of the soccer world's leading powers.

Arguably the pick of over 30 individual permanent and loan signings in which they played a part saw Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov complete his long-awaited switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester United making him Manchester United's record signing.

The move was one of 11 moves involving arrivals at and departures from Old Trafford completed by Brabners Chaffe Street LLP, including forward Fraizer Campbell's loan transfer to White Hart Lane as part of the Berbatov deal.

The firm's Sport team advised Manchester City in its capture of Brazilian star Jo from CSKA Moscow.

Seven deals were completed on behalf of Liverpool including the deadline day move of Espanyol winger Albert Riera to Anfield.

The Brabners Chaffe Street team involved during the transfer window were senior partner Maurice Watkins, partners Edward Canty and Matthew Bennett, associate Carol Couse and solicitors Stuart Baird and Matt Barnes.

The firm was active in three of the Summer's most notable managerial moves, including Mark Hughes taking charge at Manchester City, Paul Ince replacing him at Blackburn Rovers and Carlos Queiroz departing Old Trafford to take over the Portuguese national team from the new Chelsea boss, Luis Felipe Scolari.
