Photos for Fairbridge Launch
13/10/2010Over the next three months, a team from Brabners Chaffe Street will be running a photography competition in the Liverpool area as part of Fairbridge Merseyside's Zero to Hero 2010/2011 fundraising campaign.
The competition, dubbed “Photos for Fairbridge”, will run until 22 December 2010 concluding with a winners' Exhibition at St George's Hall, Liverpool on 26 January 2011. It is hoped that funds raised through sponsorship of the event and the sale of photographs will enable the North West law firm to donate in excess of £10,000 to the charity.
The competition is organised into six main categories (Architecture; Nature; History; People and the Community; Maritime; and Urban) and entries are encouraged from all ages and ability. There are also two further categories aimed at professional photographers and Fairbridge service users. The photographs must be taken in Liverpool or the surrounding area. All entries will be displayed on a stand alone competition website www.photosforfairbridge.co.uk and the winners and runners up in each category will be selected by an expert panel of professional photographers and international judges. The winning photographs in each category will be displayed and auctioned at the Exhibition and one overall prize will be awarded to the winner of a ‘People's Vote', voted for by those attending the Exhibition. The runners up and select others will also be displayed at the exhibition and be available for purchase.
Anthony Willis, team leader of “Photos for Fairbridge”, is keen to raise the profile of Fairbridge and the competition, commenting “Supporting Fairbridge gives us the opportunity to drastically change young people's lives. To give a chance to those that up until now have been written off and denied the opportunities that we have all had. These are talented, imaginative, and enthusiastic kids who can be a real asset to this country, they just need a guiding hand to take the first step along a positive path. Photos for Fairbridge is going to be great as it gives up and coming photographers and photography enthusiasts the opportunity to display their work in one of Liverpool's most prestigious venues and will hopefully raise a significant amount of money for Fairbridge! The Fairbridge category also provides an opportunity for The Fairbridge kids to accomplish something memorable, having their photograph displayed at St. George's Hall.”
Fairbridge Merseyside's team manager Jayne Wilson added: “All the money we raise on Merseyside is spent in the region. It is invested into turning around the lives of around 200 local disadvantaged young people every year. The activity programme we run is specially designed to get the young person's life back on track through sports, media, or literacy and numeracy projects. All these youngsters need is support and a chance to prove themselves.”
Entrants are encouraged to submit their photographs (including their name, contact details and category) either by post or by e-mail to photos4fairbridge@fairbridge.org.uk. The photograph should be given a title and accompanied by a short description. Full terms and conditions for entries are available on the competition website.
