North West entrepreneurs enter the Angels Den...
24/11/2011

Entrepreneurs from across the North West gathered in Manchester to pitch their business ideas to a group of investors who are offering funding to companies that are finding it difficult to access bank finance.

The ‘Angels Den Speedfunding' event, jointly hosted by law firm Brabners Chaffe Street and Allens Accountants, is a monthly business funding clinic for entrepreneurs and business owners. The concept is similar to speed dating - it involves entrepreneurs each having 3 minutes to pitch their ideas individually to 5 investor Angels. At the end of the event the entrepreneurs have a chance to get feedback, network and arrange their next meeting with interested Angels.

Investments made by the Angels start at £25,000, with the average investment being £200,000.

Businesses that took part in the most recent event include a sports coaching business for children with problems at school and a health spa building on an existing business in the North West.

Professional advisors from Brabners Chaffe Street and Allens Accountants were on hand to offer legal and financial advice to the entrepreneurs and Angels taking part.

Robert Street, Corporate Partner at Brabners Chaffe Street, said: “This event gives entrepreneurs a significant opportunity to access funding which may not be accessible elsewhere, or which complements existing bank debt. Entrepreneurs who secure investments from the Angels, who are all successful business people in their own right, get the added benefit of having the Angel provide expert business advice which increases their chances of success, particularly if they are a start up business.”

John Sheehan, Regional Manager for Angels Den, added: “There are some great business opportunities that come to Angels Den and we work hard to help them find the right investor. Several investors (Angels) have followed up on the opportunities from this event.”
