Lawyers take a dive for charity
16/06/2008Czech Republic goalkeeper Peter Cech wasn`t the only one flapping in the air this weekend, as a team of daredevil lawyers from Liverpool/Manchester/Preston took to the skies for a charity skydive.
The eight-strong group from Brabners Chaffe Street jumped 10,000 ft from a plane over the Cheshire Plain to raise more than £1000 for the New Children`s Hospital Appeal, the firm`s chosen charity for 2008.
Kimberley Strickland, one of the first of the group to make the jump, said: "It was a truly exhilarating experience and we were very lucky with the weather; the views were fantastic.
"Initially, a few in the group were concerned about how they would `pull off` the jumpsuit look, but when you`re plummeting at 120 mph towards the ground, this quickly became a secondary issue!"
Together with Kimberley, those who took part in the challenge were Isabel Thornton, Mark Robertson, Matt Hargreaves, Ruth Powell, Nicola Buckley, Rachael Kirkup and Sarah Roberts.
Sarah Naismith, Head of The New Children`s Hospital Appeal, said: "We`re obviously extremely grateful to the team for undertaking this challenge to raise funds for the new hospital.
"With their support and that of others across the region, we`re steadily getting closer to our £20 million target which will benefit the children and their families from across the north-west who will utilise the new hospital."
Due to open in 2009, the new children`s hospital will have over 390 beds. The Appeal aims to raise £20 million to provide accommodation for parents wishing to stay with their children and the very latest equipment for diagnosis and treatment.
The new children`s hospital is part of The New Hospitals Development, an investment in excess of £420 million, the largest of its kind ever to take place in Greater Manchester Hospitals.
Other Brabners Chaffe Street LLP fundraising events lined up for the coming months include whitewater rafting, swimming with sharks, and a Charity Challenge in the Langdale Valley on Sunday 29th June.
