Brabners Chaffe Street seal the world's largest club rugby sponsorship deal
14/07/2008

Sports lawyers at Brabners Chaffe Street have helped tie up what is believed to be the largest ever sponsorship deal in world club rugby.

The five-year deal sees global mining and construction equipment giant Caterpillar become the main sponsor of Leicester Tigers.

The deal also gives the American company naming rights for the North Stand at the club`s Welford Road stadium, which is due to begin a £60 million redevelopment during the Summer.

Tigers were advised by Brabners Chaffe Street associate David Bentham, supported by partner Jason Smith.

The firm has worked with the 2006-2007 Guinness Premiership champions on a number of previous sponsorship deals and player matters.

David Bentham commented "It was great for us to be brought in and to work with one of the World`s biggest rugby union clubs on its deal with this major global brand. In certain ways, the deal broke new ground and it will hopefully provide a fantastic platform for both businesses to leverage their relationship."

Other recent activity by the sports team at the Manchester-based legal team includes advising two out of the first three Tier 1 sponsors of the London 2012 Olympics on their deals with LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games).
