Brabners Chaffe Street raises funds for Help for Heroes
17/11/2010

Leading North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has held its annual charity competition and raised nearly £4000 for its chosen charity Help for Heroes.

Entitled ‘Brabners: the Big Idea', the Apprentice-style contest involves one team from each of Brabners Chaffe Street's offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Preston office competing against each other to raise the most money for charity. Each team starts with £50 donated by the firm and then has to generate as much profit as possible from their £50 within a 6-hour period. The team that makes the most profit per team member wins and this year saw the Liverpool team, the Mersey Moneymakers, victorious in the challenge.

To generate their profits the Mersey Moneymakers organised a series of events including a coffee morning and afternoon tea for staff, with a selection of pastries donated by Coffee Republic, jewellery cleaning, a raffle and a silent auction with prizes including tickets to Liverpool FC and Everton FC games, a meal for two at Noble House and overnight stays at Hope Street Hotel and Hilton Livepool.

The Liverpool team was make up of Associate Dewi Paddock and trainee Solictors Emma Cook, Ben Gildea, Kathryn O'Connor, Peter Jones, Claire Feely, Ellen McDermot, Annette Ryan and Peter Humphreys.

The Manchester team, MCR Hero Helpers, held a Wii golf tournament, a tea, coffee and cake run and a silent auction, while the Preston team, Team Da Vinci organised a car wash service, a cake sale and games for employees.

Dr. Tony Harvey, Director of Training and Risk Management at Brabners Chaffe Street took on the role of ruthless ‘Lord Tony' to oversee the competition and look out for foul play, illegal activity and star performers, with the help of his sidekick Anthony Willis, trainee Solicitor.

Mark Brandwood, Managing Partner at Brabners Chaffe Street commented: “Those involved put a lot of thought into fund raising activities that raised a large amount of money for a very good cause in a creative and entertaining way. It is also important to recognise the generosity of our employees, particularly in this economic climate.”
