4/02/2010

Brabners Chaffe Street`s Commercial team has advised The Royal Liverpool Golf Club on its successful negotiations to host the Ricoh Women`s British Open Championship for the first time.

The leading law firm`s Commercial team advised the club on its dealings with International Management Group (IMG), organisers of the Championship, and The Ladies Golf Union.

The event in September 2012 will attract leading women players including world number one Lorena Ochoa, Michelle Wie and last year`s champion Catriona Matthew.

Monday`s announcement means the Wirral course, first established in 1869, will have hosted both the mens and women`s Open Championships.

Nik White, Partner at Brabners Chaffe Street`s Liverpool office, said: "This agreement represents a major coup for The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, following the enormously successful return of the Open Championship won by Tiger Woods in 2006."

"As well as attracting leading sportswomen to the course, the event will take place shortly after the 2012 Olympics, providing a further boost to the local economy."
