BIMBO deal for well-established building company
11/05/2010J Mills (Contractors) Limited, the Urmston based maintenance contractor founded over 100 years ago, has completed a management buyin/buyout for an undisclosed sum, after securing funding from The Royal Bank of Scotland ("RBS").
John Mills originally set up the family-owned company, whose projects include refurbishments of pubs, student accommodation, offices, car parks, retail outlets, industrial space, units and estates, in 1908.
His grandson, Peter, who took over in 1991, successfully expanded the firm into new markets, including responsive maintenance services. Today, it handles a wide range contracts across the North West of England the Midlands for customers including Punch Taverns, Segro and dozens of major commercial, residential and industrial property owners and agents.
Recent wins include an £800,000 project for City Link to upgrade and refurbish the former MFI Distribution Centre in Appleton Thorn, Warrington. Now, J Mills is set to embark on a new chapter of growth.
Paul Noall, whose background has included time consulting with PWC and working with a listed property developer, led the deal. He becomes the majority shareholder and Managing Director. Gary Solomon, who has had substantial management experience within the J Mills, joins him as Contracts Director. Peter Mills is staying with the business.
A team from BTG McInnes Corporate Finance, led by Jeff Barber and Emma Jones, advised on the sale process.
A team from the Manchester office of law firm Brabners Chaffe Street, led by Tony Harper and Claire Swarbrick, advised the purchaser.
Dootsons solicitors acted on behalf of the vendors.
