£6,000 raised for Claire House children`s hospice
7/06/2007
The three represented the firm`s three regional offices on a gruelling four-day trek across the country`s Atlas Mountains in aid of Claire House children`s hospice
Manchester Sports lawyer Matt Hargreaves, Heather Brierley, a legal assistant in Brabner`s Preston office and Liverpool legal secretary Karen Harrison embarked on the arduous North African adventure.
The trek is only the latest fundraising effort from Karen. Last November, she was part of a Brabners Chaffe Street team which ran the Athens Marathon as the second leg of a three-year Culture Citie`s triathlon. That event is due to conclude with a five-mile swim in Luxembourg later this year.
Matt has also already contributed to the Claire House push by completing a 10k run on Good Friday which raised £500. The Moroccan trek was Heather`s major fundraising debut.
Karen said the trip was unlike anything all three had faced before. `None of us had been to the country previously or tackled any high altitude walks like this so it tested our curiosity and our endurance to the limits.
`Claire House is our nominated charity this year so we`re making an extra push across all three offices to raise money. This seemed like an ideal way of making a joint effort. I`m glad to say that our hope legs were just about up to the challenge.î
The Atlas range stretches across North West Africa, separating the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert.
Based in Wirral, Claire House provides residential and home-based care for seriously ill children. In addition to being backed by Wayne Rooney`s fiancee, the hospice is supported by comedian Norman Wisdom and actress Patricia Routledge.
