£150,000 boost for Kirkby special needs` schools
10/02/2010Leading North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has acted on behalf of executors to establish a foundation to help support schools for children with disabilities in Kirkby.
Roy and Louise Rossiter, who died in 2008, established Knowsley Instrument Services Limited and lived and worked in the Kirkby area for most of their lives.
The couple were loyal supporters of schools for children with disabilities, including the Springfield School in Kirkby, and made provision in their wills to continue their charitable interests.
Acting as executor of the Rossiter estates, Mark Feeny, head of the private client department at Brabners Chaffe Street, worked with the Community Foundation for Merseyside to establish the Roy and Louise Rossiter Foundation.
It was structured to ensure it was eligible for the Merseyside Grassroots Endowment Challenge (MGEC) - a matched funding initiative whereby any money donated by the Rossiter estates will be enhanced by a further 50 per cent grant.
The foundation will be supported by an advisory board which will include members of the Rossiter family, staff from Knowsley Instrument Services and others with an interest in special needs education in Kirkby.
The executors have provided an initial endowment of £100,000 which will be enhanced by a further £50,000 from the MGEC, and the advisory board will guide the distribution of the Trust fund to further the charitable objectives.
Mark Feeny said: "I know Roy and Louise would be delighted that we have been able to augment their own contribution to charity by use of the Merseyside Grassroots Endowment Challenge.
"Merseyside has a great philanthropic tradition, and the Rossiter`s generosity shows that people can still make a real difference to improving the quality of life for people in their own communities."
Brabners Chaffe Street employs 380 people across its offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Preston. The firm specialises in private client, corporate, commercial, employment, litigation, property and sports law.
