Brabners joins forces to raise money for Claire House Charity
23/03/2007

MEMBERS of Liverpool`s business community were up with the birds to raise money for Claire House this week ñ while learning how better to look after their staff at the same time.

Around 25 people from across Liverpool`s professional sector attended a special breakfast seminar run by Downtown Liverpool in Business and city law firm, Brabners Chaffe Street.

As well as raising £350 for Claire House, delegates saw a presentation on how to look after the staff you value, and deal safely with those you don`t, from Andy Cross, head of employment at Dale Street-based Brabners.

`It is fair to say that we`re not known for running breakfast events,î said night owl and DLIB chairman, Frank McKenna. `But this was a great success.

`As well as raising a lot of money for a very worthwhile cause, the Business Breakfasts give some of our valued members some very good advice, as well as a productive networking opportunity.î

Andy Cross, whose department this week launched a new dedicated website on discrimination law called DiscriminationOnline.com, added: `As one of the Top 100 companies to work for, we like to think we recognise the benefits of taking care of our staff.

`But while there are some employees you want to make sacrifices to keep, there are others for whom the time has come to move on.

`What businesses need to know is that this can be done, as long as they have the correct paperwork, trained staff and solid legal backup.

`Without those three things, companies could be heading for a costly case of unfair dismissal or, worse, uncapped tribunal awards for a claim of discrimination.î
