Manchester lawyers buck trend with multi-million pound construction deal
8/03/2009

A team of Manchester lawyers has defied the gloom in the UK`s building sector by completing the multi million pound sale of TPT Construction, a Pembrokeshire-based family-owned company.

Ruth Jones and Simon Lewis, Partner and Associate respectively at the Manchester office of law firm Brabners Chaffe Street, advised the company on its sale to Preston-based property developer, Darbyshire Group.

TPT, founded in 1973, is one of the West Wales` leading construction firms, handling major projects for a range of clients in the public and private sectors.

Ruth Jones said: "The transaction provides an excellent outcome for TPT`s shareholders, employees and clients with the new owner committed to building on its strengths and expertise to grow its presence."

She added: "The deal market is still being challenged by a lack of bank finance and falling confidence, with the construction sector particularly affected. As a result, a growing number of vendors from outside of the North West are drawing on the skills of our corporate team to ensure their transactions get over the line."

Philip Turpin, former director shareholder of TPT, said: "This was a highly complex deal in one of the most challenging markets we`ve seen for several decades. Its successful completion underlines the quality of the business, the vision of the buyer and the tenacity and innovation of our advisory team at Brabners Chaffe Street."

Knightsbridge Business Services brokered the transaction.

The Nottingham office of Berryman advised the buyer.
