Lawyers on a roll following carpet firm deal
14/04/2008Lawyers at Brabners Chaffe Street LLP in Manchester advised Danish firm Jensen Group A/S on its sale of Melford Commercial Properties Limited and Carpetworld Manchester Ltd to Carpetright Plc.
Carpetworld will join Carpetright`s continually expanding range of stores and concessions, which at last count exceeded 600 across the UK and Europe.
It is intended that Carpetworld, which has branches in Levenshulme and Oldham Road in Manchester amongst others throughout the region, will eventually trade under either the Carpetright or Storeys brands.
A team at Brabners Chaffe Streeet including corporate partner Mark Brandwood and associate Claire Swarbrick advised Danish sellers The Jensen Group A/S on its disposal of the flooring retailer.
Associate Paul Nicholls from the law firm`s property team advised on Carpetworld`s 14 properties.
Mark Brandwood said: `Carpetworld has been a strong firm in the flooring retail sector for some time, and its acquisition by such a major company as Carpetright underlines its success,î said Mr Brandwood.
`Under its new ownership, I am sure that it will continue to trade very successfully.î
Commenting on the acquisition, Carpetright`s chairman and chief executive Lord Harris of Peckham said: `The acquisition of Carpetworld Manchester Ltd gives us a good presence in the North West of England, an area where we are not currently well represented.
`We see opportunities to further develop this business and deliver attractive returns to our shareholders.î
Other advisers on the deal included accountants PKF (UK) LLP who advised The Jensen Group A/S, and law firm Travers Smith, who acted for Carpetright Plc.
