Brabners advises sale on a Cheshire distribution and warehousing business
18/04/2007Plans for the creation of a major North West freight hub have been announced following the sale of a Cheshire distribution and warehousing business for £33.5 million.
AHC Warehousing of Widnes has been bought by Westlink Group Limited, a UK subsidiary of the Guernsey-based Westbury Property Fund.
Under the terms of the deal, Westlink has acquired the AHC business and 100 acres of land, including a rail freight terminal, which it claims are central to its growth strategy.
Westlink says the AHC acquisition will complement the development of another of its North West operations - the nearby 44-acre Port of Weston site in Runcorn ñ and will also allow the company to expand its rail freight business, Victa Westlink Rail.
AHC, whose chairman Jim Quinn is a director of Widnes Vikings Rugby League club, was formed in 1982 out of the Hutchinson Estate and Dock Company. It provides a range of warehousing, distribution and packing services to an extensive client roster which includes several blue chip companies.
It was advised on the sale by corporate lawyers from Brabners Chaffe Street in Manchester ñ led by partner Tony Harper, head of the office`s corporate team, and departmental colleagues, solicitors Anna Gregory and Nicola West - supported by specialists from the firm`s other departments.
Westlink was advised by Addleshaw Goddard partner Philip Goodstone along with colleagues Richard Wheeldon and Stewart Hamilton.
