Brabners Chaffe Street sponsors the University of Liverpool's Charity Law & Policy Unit
19/01/2011Leading North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has announced its sponsorship of the Charity Law & Policy Unit (CLPU) at the University of Liverpool.
The only unit of its kind in England and Wales, the main focus of the CLPU is on researching the law as it affects the charity sector. The CLPU has always concentrated on providing relevant research of high quality and in making the results of that research available to the charity sector and its advisers.
As well as financial contribution, Brabners Chaffe Street's sponsorship of the CLPU includes public lecture involvement, assistance when undertaking research projects and association with a series of events. Forthcoming events include ‘Public benefits and the limits of charity' on 24 February 2011 and ‘Charity begins at school: the creeping reach of charity law' on 26 May 2011, both to be held at Liverpool University. Recent events include the ‘Big Debate on the Big Society' and Debra Morris, Director of the CLPU, was guest speaker at Brabners Chaffe Street's Charity Sector CEO Forum.
In addition, as part of the sponsorship, Stephen Claus, Partner and Head of Charity and Social Enterprise at Brabners Chaffe Street will be acting as an external member of CLPU's steering committee, along with Sir John Mummery and Hubert Picarda QC. They will assist in ensuring the relevance and usefulness of future CLPU research activity.
Stephen Claus of Brabners Chaffe Street commented: “Brabners Chaffe Street has actively had a long standing interest in the work of the University of Liverpool and we are proud to be able to continue to give it our support, which has been our practice when possible over many years. Ranked as the North West's leading charity law practice, the firm is naturally interested in supporting the research and activities undertaken by the Charity Law & Policy Unit. Charity law is a highly specialist area undertaken in a serious way by very few law firms and the decision to sponsor the Unit represents an ideal opportunity to showcase the advisory services that Brabners Chaffe Street offers to charities and affirms our commitment to the development of charity law.”
Debra Morris, Director of the CLPU said: ”This is a wonderful opportunity to formalise our long-established close links with Brabners Chaffe Street. The firm's interests and those of the Charity Law & Policy Unit provide a perfect fit and members of CLPU look forward to working closely with Stephen Claus and his team in the future to our mutual benefit.”
