Brabners Chaffe Street establishes Swansea Valley Miners Appeal Fund charity
28/09/2011Leading North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has concluded the registration of Swansea Valley Miners Appeal Fund as a registered charity.
The Swansea Valley Miners Appeal Fund was founded by Peter Hain MP and the South Wales branch of the National Union of Mineworkers in response to the tragic death of four miners at Gleision Colliery in South Wales earlier this month. The fund will support the families of the victims who need help to survive and recover for the future. The Royal Patron of the fund is HRH the Prince of Wales.
Stephen Claus, Partner and Head of Charity and Social Enterprise at Brabners Chaffe Street said: “I act in relation to various issues connected with mining related charities, and have done for many years. We were glad to assist in formally setting up the charity for the families affected by this terrible tragedy. We have managed to create and register this charity within one week of being approached, with expeditious registration by the Charity Commission. By becoming a registered charity, the fund will now be eligible for Gift Aid on the donations it receives, increasing their value by 25%.”
