Brabners Chaffe Street comments on academies
31/01/2011

Stephen Claus, Partner and Head of Charity and Social Enterprise at Brabners Chaffe Street comments:

“The government announced on Friday that all new schools should be academies or free schools but what is interesting to note is the discussions between existing schools who are considering converting to academy status. A common theme is the apparent development of a collaborative, or clustered approach to the new academies regime. It appears that a number of schools sharing common factors (such as location, religious designation, etc) are in discussions to work together in future, in the event that the support of the local authority is diluted, or even removed, as more academies come into existence. It seems that schools will seek to benefit from a collaborative approach when negotiating contracts, etc so as to benefit from economies of scale. This approach is consistent with the schools that opt for conversion from Community to Foundation status and adopt a trust, where groups of schools come together in a similar way.”
